Shows I'm Currently Watching

Friday, November 6, 2015

Hey, guys! Merzy here! So, as you might know I love TV shows (obviously) but unfortunately, I don't actually have time to watch as many as I want to or I'm too lazy to go ahead and watch them if I do have the time. So, to avoid any confusion; here's the tv series I'm actually watching and keeping up with as to right now!

Supergirl (CBS)

Source
Where do I start with this show? OMG! Not only did it have the best ratings on its premier for a superhero show but it's also good! I love this show so much and it's only two episodes in! I honestly can't wait for what's in store for the future. By no means is it a perfect show but it's enjoyable and it's changing how we view female heroes in TV. Plus, it reminds me so much of Smallville it hurts! I'm totally fangirling over this series and I'm so not hiding it from anyone!

The Flash (CW)

Source
I have a very special place in my heart for The Flash. I started this show from the very first episode and I've been in love with it ever since. It's equal parts drama, humor and action, plus incredibly heart-felt at times. It's the first time I thought, "Yes, DC has a spot in TV and it's going to stay" because even though Arrow has been a hit long before The Flash aired, it never really spoke to me, it was much too dark for my tastes. The Flash though, much like Supergirl, is a breath of fresh air. This series is not perfect, and there's some definite points this season has to fix (like patchy dialogue from that episode before last! Talk about forced exposition) but overall, it's an amazing show I'll always keep up with.

The Vampire Diaries (CW)

Now, I'm not going to sit here and give you a full analisis on TVD or a fangirl monologue. I have a lot of things I want to say about Vampire Diaries and not a lot of people agree with it. Let's start with the fact that I saw this show since the very first day it aired; I was a huge, huge fan and never even dared miss an episode. That changed around season 4 or 5 when I got sick and tired of Elena dealing with her shit as a vampire and realized that they kept reusing the same formula every season and I was getting very tired of it, I felt as if the story was going absolutely nowhere. Of course, I still knew what was happening even if I didn't watch it becuase it's the internet and I didn't unfollow people and I didn't care about spoilers. So, when I heard that Nina Dobrev was leaving the show, I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to jump right in for season 7. Truthfully, I think it works a lot better without her. Elena was running out of reason to be there, she was a one-dimentional note of a character which only dragged the story behind. Without Elena Gilbert in the mix, the story of Mystic Falls takes on a new dimension and a new chance for these characters to interact and explore without the evergrowing shadow of Elena in the background. Of course, I love Nina! She's a fantastic actress! My issue wasn't with her or Elena's character per se, it was just that the writers didn't know what to do with her!

Okay, that was too long considering I said I wasn't going to do a full analisis on TVD! lol! Oops. Sometimes I get too ahead of myself.

Anyway, that's about it for the shows I try to get on top of! Of course, I'm watching other shows on netflix and such but they're either old and not on TV anymore or I wait until the full next season comes to Netflix so I can watch it there. Like I said, I'm lazy.

What are some of the shows you're currently watching? See you guys later, then!

Backstory: Why I want to work in Television

Hey guys! Merzy here! Today I would like to talk to you guys a little bit about why I want to work in the world of tv and where it all comes from. I've always been a big fan of TV,  it's just something that's always been in my life (and yours too probably). It's a huge factor for why I am the way I am and why I speak English so well. My mom tells me how when I was little I used to adore Angelica from Rugrats and even imitate her... which, okay, not the best rolemodel out there but well.

Charmed was one -- if not the very first show I bought the season of on DVD and rented the seasons I didn't have so I can watch it in an order. But it wasn't until I discovered Smallville that everything changed for me. With Smallville, a show about the begginnings of Clark Kent as Superman, I discovered commentaries and this would be the main drive force to my fascination with living in the TV industry. I just found the whole process of building episodes and seasons so fascinating and it was so hard for me to believe that Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Chloe Sullivan and the whole town of Smallville and later Metropolis, wasn't real. And to this day, it's still hard for me to accept this even though the show has long sinc ended; it still feels real.

I've always dreamed of writing for Smallville, so when it ended my heart broke with the knowledge that I was never going to accomplish that dream. But since the success of Arrow and The Flash, plus the amazing premier of Supergirl, the road towards my dream of writing for a DC Comics show might just be a reality some day.

So, keep a look out for my name in a few years time.

What TV Majors should watch on Netflix

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Hey, guys! Merzy here! Now, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Netflix, mostly because I can't watch it on my own because my attention span just can't handle it. Because of this, finding something that I can actually watch by myself is rare. But recently I've found a few things that always pump me up for my future career in television! So, if you're in the same boat that I am this would be absolutely perfect for you!

Let's get started then!

First off is Showrunners, a documentary film about running a tv show and what that actually means. This shows the viewers everything they would need to about being a creator/excecutive producer, plus giving us a behind the scenes look on some of our favorite tv classics such as Buffy the vampier slayer, Lost & Bones. I urge everyone who is even remotely interested in tv to watch this; I find it amazingly fascinating and it will certainly inspire you to want to create your own tv show. Plus, it doesn't shy away from the fact that it's a hard job to do; it's very honest with its protrayal which is always good.

Next up is the tv series "The Writers' Room" hosted by Jim Rash which goes behind the scenes on our favorite tv shows and let's us know what's happening inside the writers' room. Every episode is a new tv show which is always refreshing and never the same! Some of the show it features are Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones & American Horror Story. I haven't had the chance to watch this yet (because university is hard) but I'm so excited to get started on it! I'm a sucker for behind the scnes stuff like this!

That's about it for documentaries, now the next shows I'm going to talk about are all classics and there's no need for me to tell you why you should watch them because you know exactly why you should. And here they are:
  • X-Files
  • Buffy The Vampire Slayer
  • Twilight Zone
  • Doctor Who
  • Star Trek
  •  Twin Peaks
  • Lost (at least a few seasons)
